THE BIN PROJECT

THE BIN PROJECT

by The Beautiful Land Initiative

Right now, the city of Tiberias and the beaches of the Sea of Galilee are constantly being overrun with litter. The BLI has been tirelessly countering the litter problem in Israel through large-scale volunteer cleanups. We know where the litter starts, and where it ends up.

One of the largest contributors to the litter problem in Tiberias and its public beaches is simple: the extremely low count of public trash bins. The BLI has partnered with the Tiberias Municipality on this groundbreaking project called THE BIN PROJECT.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF LETTER FROM THE MAYOR OF TIBERIAS

12 October 2020

To Mr. Jordan Marcellino, Director of The Beautiful Land Initiative, Greetings,

Subject: Donation of bins to the Municipality of Tiberias

The Municipality of Tiberias will gladly accept a donation of up to 300 bins in order to keep the shores of the Sea of Galilee clean and within the city of Tiberias as part of the Beautiful Land Initiative.  The municipality and the cleaning team of the Municipality of Tiberias will take care of removing the garbage from the bins and will take responsibility for the maintenance of the garbage bins including inserting garbage bags into them so that the public can use the bins properly.  We hope that this project known as "BIN PROJECT" will be a means to help cultivate a culture of respect, one for another, as well as a means of preserving the environment here in Tiberias, the city of the Sea of Galilee.

Sincerely, Shimon (Mooney) Ma’atok

Chairman of the committee in charge of Tiberias
